Review of The Devouring

The Devouring
by Simon Holt
Genre:YA Horror

Summary from Goodreads:

"When dark creeps in and eats the light,
Bury your fears on Sorry Night.
For in the winter's blackest hours,
Comes the feasting of the Vours,
No one can see it, the life they stole,
Your body's here but not your soul..."
THE VOURS: Evil, demonic beings that inhabit human bodies on Sorry Night, the darkest hours of the winter solstice.
When Reggie reads about the Vours in a mysterious old journal, she assumes they are just the musings of an anonymous lunatic. But when her little brother, Henry, begins to act strangely, it's clear that these creatures exist beyond a madwoman's imagination, and Reggie finds out what happens when fears come to life.
To save the people she loves, Reggie must learn to survive in a world of nightmares. Can she devour her own fears before they devour her?
The Devouring is an engrossing tale of terror that will have you wondering: what if your worst fears became your living nightmare?

My Review:
Wow! For such a short book it sure was action packed! It was 153 pages of awesomeness and would really like to thank Nick for telling me to read it and review it on the blog. By the way Nick you were right there was a crazy demonic clown in it but I wasn't scared of it maybe I devoured my fear like Reggie did.

I really enjoyed this book and didn't find it as scary as a ton of people had told me it would be. I mean the Vours were totally creepy and I plan on keeping a very watchful and protective eye on my little brother who reminds me a lot of Reggie's little brother Henry.  But all in all I thought it was a very interesting and a breath of fresh air to a world of YA that now mostly consists of Paranormal Romances and I definitely plan on continuing with the series and finishing it.

I also saw kind of a theme to the story, the story revealed to me that yes, fears are something that we all have to face but it is the way we handle them that matters most. You can't let something you are a afraid of control your life because you may miss out on something really great.

So, great book but pre-warn this book/series is not for the weak at heart! Happy Reading!

  1. Your Welcome for the book suggestion, I'm glad you liked it!!!! Instead of the whole Supernatural Romance books!!!!! There is just too many of those going around!!!!! Watch out for the Evil hacking Clown of Doom!!!!! I think the second one is better, so I think you'll like that one even more!!!!
